Christmas opening hours

The MadPilot Produtions office will be closed from the 24th of December until the 5th of January.

Whilst I'll be periodically checking that 88 Miles, I won't be checking email very regularly during that time, so by all means, continue sending any email, just don't be offended if you don't get a response until early 2009!

So have a safe holiday season, and I look forward to tracking your time in 2009!

88 Miles will be down for maintenance

Just a quick note to let you know that 88 Miles will be down for maintenance on January 25th 2008 between 10am and 10:30am AWST (GMT+9).

During this time, we are moving to a new server to increase the capacity and speed of the system — I have done a couple of test runs, so that side of things should be fairly smooth. I only really envisage 5 minutes of actual downtime, but with DNS delegation, you never know!

During that time, you won't be able to punch in or punch out of projects — however, if you are punched in on a project, the system will remember it and you should see the running task when it comes back online.

If you have any questions, please contact us me via the MadPilot Productions website.

Thanks for your cooperation, and sorry for the inconvience

Myles

88 Miles get on Australia's top 60 Web 2.0 apps list!

Ross Dawson, who is holding a Web 2.0 conference next month has compiled a list of the top 60 Australian web 2.0 companies, and 88 Miles came in at number 43!

88 Miles wasn't the only Western Australian Web 2.0 app to make the list:

In at number 5 was Minti, the parenting social network. Number 6 was Scouta - the Podcast suggestionsnetwork started by Richard Giles. 23 was Bronwen Clune’s PerthNorg. Number 29 was the social bookmarking tool, Buzka

Watch out for the Australian startups, they really are starting to gain momentum!

'Tis the season!

As most people are winding down for the season, 88 Miles is full steam ahead with a number
of updates that will be pushed out through during the Christmas/New years break. The changes
include a help system, some more UI changes and time budgeting.

So for those of you who have been waiting patiently to set a time limit on a project, your wait
is NEARLY over! I'll explain it further after it is released, but in a nutshell, you enter
the number of hours (or minutes) you have to complete a project and you get all sorts of warnings
 when you go over.

Anyway, that is enough for now, as I'm sure there is much eating, drinking and merrying to be had.
On behalf of 88 Miles and MadPilot Productions, please let me wish you all a happy festive season,
and I hope you look forward to a spectacular new year.

Upgrade times and more flexible accounts

Welcome to the December of edition of the 88 Miles newsletter! This month brings some cool updates
to 88 Miles, which I hope will make your lives just that little bit easier.

88 Miles tip

Did you know you can manually add shifts to a project retrospectively?

This is really handy if you forgot to punch in, or if you did some work away from you computer.

 Just click the “Options” button,
select “Summary” from the drop-down panel and then click “Manually add a shift”.

New accounts

The biggest update this month is the introduction of the new business accounts. The business version
has been in beta for a couple of months, and it is now time for it to go live!

The pricing structure should cater for everyone — there is a price point for everyone from freelancers
to huge corporations — if you are interested in seeing how much is all costs now, goto
the pricing page. For those of you who were
business beta testers, you get a special surprise — you get access to the corporate version of 88 Miles
for free for the next 12 months (Value: $648!).

The other big news is that the free account has just become useful! The free account has no time limits,
and has no limit on the number of staff you can have. The only limit is you can only punch 40 hours per
month (so roughly 10 hours per week). As a result, those of you who's accounts have expired have been
un-expired — so login again and see what has changed!

Better reports

88 Miles will now generate graphs for project summaries and project staff summaries. If your have a
JavaScript enabled browser, you will be able get a visual representation of where your time is going.

 To see the graphs:

Pick a project

Click “Options”

Click “Summary”

Click “Graph view”

Until next time...

Happy time tracking! (And remember to tell you friends!)

 Myles Eftos

Now with print stylesheets...

For those of you that print off the 88 Miles project view, we have created a print-friendly stylesheet!

This means that the list will print out a lot nicer than it did before.

You will also have noticed a few cosmetic changes to the interface — we hope you like them. If you don't, let us know, we want to hear from you.

This week in updates

The 88 Miles team have been busy little beavers of the past couple of weeks, with a number of updates that rolled out over the weekend — the list is as follows (in reverse order of significance):

Minor GUI updates: Fixed the lengths of text boxes on Macs and fixed some typos.

Daily totals: You can now see the total hours you have worked for a company and on a project at the click of a button. Extremely useful if you switch betwen jobs all day

Mobile Edition Beta: Access 88 Miles via your mobile phone! There are two versions, a WAP 1.1 for older phones and a WAP 2.x version for newer phones and PDAs. Currently you can only punch-in and punch-out from existing projects, but if there is enough interest in adding other features (such as adding companies and projects), We're all ears.
The URLs are:

WAP 1.1: http://www.88miles.net/wap

WAP 2.0/PDA: http://www.88miles.net/mobile

Business Edition Beta: Previously, if you wanted to use 88 Miles for all of you staff, you needed to created separate accounts with separate billing for each user, and there was no way of collating the time totals across users. Well no more! The business edition allows you to create staff members under one account, and to see summaries for all of those users, either separately or together. Interested? You can sign up for the free business user beta test group at http://www.88miles.net/pages/business

Phew! What a list. It's all part of our mission of keeping 88 Miles simple, yet making it powerful at the same time. As always, if you have any feedback, leave a comment below, or send as a message.

Happy tracking!

New developers area

The first version of the 88 Miles webservices are complete and uploaded!

You can find details of them at http://www.88miles.net/developers

All of the webservices support SOAP and XML-RPC, so if you have wanted to integrate 88 Miles with your CMS, or create a desktop version or create a funky time management mash-up - now you can.

The webservices can still be considered beta, but the interfaces shouldn't change in this version. Also, we make no promises that the documentation is 100% accurate, there may be typos, etc so please contact us if you have a problem

Cheers,

Myles
